Child Care Stabilization Grants (2022-S-44)

Overview

In response to the need in the child care sector, as part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) administered several child care grant programs including child care workforce retention and child care stabilization. OCFS received $1.8 billion from ARPA, and an additional $469 million from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act and used it to fund several COVID-19 response programs, including over $1.4 billion to fund child care stabilization grant programs.

The dashboard presents child care capacity changes and child care stabilization grant dollars awarded by OCFS region and county. Capacity information is per OCFS’s registered provider databases from August 1, 2021 and September 29, 2023. The dashboard does not include New York City Group Day Cares or Legally Exempt providers. Capacity may fluctuate for a variety of factors not related to grant funding, and the data captured here reflects a specific point in time, therefore, values may have changed since the creation of this map. This interactive dashboard should not be used to infer any direct relationship between grant funding and capacity losses or gains.
