Purpose
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide agency instructions for processing the 2023 CUNY rate increases for Elevator Mechanics.
Affected Employees
CUNY employees in the title of Elevator Mechanic are affected.
Background
A Consent Determination has been entered and filed on December 28, 2021, between the Comptroller of the City of New York and the City Employees Union, Local 237, International Brotherhood of Teamsters regarding rate increases for employees in the title of Elevator Mechanic, Elevator Mechanic’s Helper, and Supervisor Elevator Mechanic. This determination covers the period September 25, 2020, through April 17, 2024.
The agreement, as summarized in a memorandum from Carmelo Batista dated January 20, 2022, provides for increases to the hourly rates effective 09/25/2020, 03/17/2021, 11/01/2021, 03/17/2022 and 03/17/2023 as contained in the attached Salary Rate Chart.
Effective Dates
The current rate increase is effective as of 03/17/2023. Transactions to process this increase may be entered in Institution Pay Period 25C, paychecks dated 03/23/2023.
Eligibility Criteria
CUNY employees in Elevator Mechanic titles are eligible for the payment on the effective date. Further eligibility criteria is available in the memorandum from Carmelo Batista, Jr. dated January 20, 2022.
Agency Actions
Reporting the Rate Increases
To increase the hourly rate(s) for eligible employees, the agency must submit the following job requests, regardless of the employee’s status:
- For all rate increases, request a Pay Change with the Action/Reason code of PAY/CRT (Pay Rate Change/Change Rate) on the Job Action Requests page, using the effective date of the applicable rate increase, and submit the new hourly rate.
- A separate request must be made for each row that exists on the employee’s Job Data page.
Tax Information
These monies are taxable income subject to all employment taxes and income taxes, will be included in the employee’s taxable gross and reported on the employee’s Form W-2.
