State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Chemung County District Attorney Weeden Wetmore and the New York State Police announced the arrest of Tammy Miele, former Assistant Clerk for the Village of Horseheads, for allegedly stealing nearly $4,000 from the Village. The arrest was the result of a joint investigation between Comptroller DiNapoli’s Office, the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office, and the New York State Police.

From 2017 to 2022 New York’s four licensed casinos brought $176 million in gaming tax revenue to host and regional local governments, but only the three smaller towns that host casinos realized significant fiscal benefits relative to their overall revenue, a report from State Comptroller Thomas P. New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli and Social Security Administration (SSA) Inspector General Gail S. Ennis today announced the guilty plea of Charles Alton Bump Jr. to two counts of felony theft for stealing $53,320 in payments from the New York State Common Retirement Fund and the SSA that were sent to his deceased mother, Elizabeth Dorothy Case. Bump concealed his mother’s death and continued collecting her retirement and SSA payments. He stole $28,679 from the state pension fund and $24,641 from the SSA.

In June, the Office of the State Comptroller approved 2,037 contracts for state agencies and public authorities valued at $2.1 billion and approved nearly 1.9 million payments worth nearly $13.2 billion. The office rejected 244 contracts and related transactions valued at $490.3 million and more than 1,500 payments valued at nearly $11.5 million, primarily for mistakes, insufficient support for charges, and improper payments. Too many seniors are waiting months on the New York City Department for the Aging’s (DFTA) client wait lists to get critical assistance like home delivered meals, housekeeping and personal care services because the agency is not doing enough to monitor the service providers it hires, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced the indictment of a 53-year-old Texas woman for allegedly stealing more than $65,000 in New York state pension payments meant for a deceased acquaintance. Christy Gibson, of Smith County, Texas, was indicted by Texas prosecutors and charged with one count of theft after an investigation by DiNapoli’s office.
