DiNapoli: Former Clerk/Treasurer of Village of Norwood Pleads Guilty to Stealing Over $70K From Village

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua and the New York State Police today announced that Nancy Berger, 55, formerly the Clerk/Treasurer of the Village of Norwood, pleaded guilty to grand larceny in the second degree for stealing $73,725 from the village.

“Nancy Berger treated the village as her personal bank account and abused the public’s trust,” DiNapoli said. “I thank District Attorney Pasqua and the New York State Police for their partnership. Justice is now served on behalf of Norwood residents.”

DiNapoli: School Districts Need to Improve Oversight of Technology Equipment

Audits of 20 school districts across New York state found many could not always locate information technology (IT) assets such as laptop computers, tablets and monitors; did not always keep records of those assets; and often failed to safeguard them from theft or damage. As a result, nearly $22 million worth of IT assets purchased or leased during the audit period were subject to potential theft, loss or misuse, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

DiNapoli: Former Poestenkill Employee Charged With Stealing $3,000 From Town

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly and New York State Police Acting Superintendent Steven A. Nigrelli announced the arrest of Michelle Asquith, the former Town of Poestenkill administrative assistant, for allegedly stealing more than $3,000 in town funds over a four-year period.
