DiNapoli Urges New Yorkers to Spend Holiday Gift Cards

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to keep track of the gift cards they received during the holidays. Unused gift card balances can be turned over to the Comptroller’s Office of Unclaimed Funds (OUF) after five years of inactivity. In 2023, the Office recovered over $27 million from gift cards. For this reason, everyone should check for unclaimed funds.

DiNapoli Announces Robin Lois to Oversee Local Government Division

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced the appointment of former Dutchess County Comptroller Robin Lois as the Deputy Comptroller of Local Government & School Accountability.

Lois will head the division responsible for monitoring the finances of New York’s local governments and school districts. She will direct seven regional offices and a staff of more than 300 responsible for auditing and budget reviews, training local officials, monitoring local fiscal stress, and reporting on issues facing local governments and schools.

DiNapoli Releases Bond Calendar for First Quarter

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli today announced a tentative schedule of planned bond sales for New York State, New York City and their major public authorities during the first quarter of 2024.

The planned sales of $4.36 billion include $3.11 billion of new money and $1.25 billion of refundings and reofferings as follows:

New York City housing costs have grown more than 68% over the last decade, the largest increase of selected major metropolitan areas in the U.S. Housing affordability, which considers the incomes of households, has also worsened in New York City over the last decade, as median rent prices, in particular, grew faster than median incomes. Many New Yorkers may continue to be priced out of their preferred neighborhoods without a substantial increase in the supply of affordable housing units for low- and moderate-income households.

DiNapoli & James: Former Throop Supervisor Pleads Guilty to Stealing $11,000 From Town

A former Town of Throop Supervisor was arrested and pleaded guilty today to stealing nearly $11,000 from the town over a two-year period, State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Attorney General Letitia James and the New York State Police announced. William Tarby pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and Official Misconduct. As part of his plea agreement, he will pay full restitution and cannot seek public office again.
