Purpose of Audit

The purpose of our audit was to examine the District’s financial condition for the period July 1, 2012 through June 2, 2014.

Background

The Haverstraw-Stony Point Central School District is located in the Towns of Haverstraw and Stony Point, Rockland County, and operates eight schools with approximately 8,000 students and 983 employees. The District is governed by the Board of Education, which comprises seven elected members. The Board President is the District’s chief financial officer. For the 2014-15 fiscal year, the District’s operating budget is approximately $208 million.

Key Finding

• To keep the District’s financial condition from declining further, District officials closely monitored expenditures and restricted departmental budgets each year.

Key Recommendation

• Continue to closely monitor the budget and take necessary actions to maintain fiscal stability.
