Purpose of Audit

The purpose of our audit was to examine the District’s procurement procedures for obtaining professional services for the period July 1, 2014 through April 19, 2016.

Background

The Oceanside Union Free School District is located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County. The District, which operates 10 schools with approximately 5,560 students, is governed by an elected seven-member Board of Education. Budgeted appropriations for the 2016-17 fiscal year total approximately $147.2 million.

Key Finding

• District officials did not always seek competition for professional services.

Key Recommendation

• Monitor the procurement of professional services to ensure compliance with Board-adopted policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
