Purpose of Audit

The purpose of our audit was to examine the Village’s claims audit process for the period June 1, 2012 through November 30, 2013.

Background

The Village of North Syracuse is located in Onondaga County and has a population of approximately 6,800. The Village is governed by an elected five-member Board of Trustees. Budgeted appropriations for the 2013-14 fiscal year totaled approximately $4.8 million.

Key Finding

• The Board approves claims abstracts without reviewing the actual claims.

Key Recommendation

• Conduct a thorough and deliberate audit of claims before authorizing payments.
