Information Technology Specialists
Our information technology specialists identify technology solutions, develop systems to support agency partners and use data analytics to improve organizational performance so the agency can best serve New Yorkers.
Information Technology Specialists perform a variety of technical activities including:
- Network and system design, configuration, maintenance, and security
- Customer support
- Systems analysis and design
- Design, development, and administration of database systems
- Application development

Application Development Apprenticeship

We offer a paid one-year apprenticeship in application development that provides participants with on-the-job training and a potential path to State employment. Through this opportunity, apprentices will:
- Collaborate with business teams to gather and refine business requirements.
- Analyze functional requirements and develop technical requirements/specifications.
- Investigate ways to apply delivered PeopleSoft technology as a solution to business problems.
- Code new programs and modules as well as changes to existing programs and modules.
- Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must:
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
- Have completed one year of college coursework with a concentration in Computer Information Science or equivalent.
- Have completed the following courses or equivalent:
- Introduction to Computing and Information Sciences
- Programming Logic – Data Structures and Introduction to Database Concepts with Microsoft Access
Participants will be required to take three pre-determined computer science courses or equivalents during the one-year apprenticeship:
- Web Design–Server-Side Programming with PHP and MySQL
- Database Management System
- Structured Query Language (SQL) and PL/SQL
