Join Our Team as a State Program Examiner!
Effectuate Positive Change for New Yorkers
Auditing is the heart of our work at the State Comptroller's office. The Division of State Government Accountability (SGA) leads the way in evaluating hundreds of New York state and city agencies and public authorities on an expansive range of subjects — from social services and housing to criminal justice and economic development, the environment and agriculture, health care and aging, transportation and labor, IT security, artificial intelligence, and more.
Our work identifies opportunities for operational improvement, reduces waste, enhances productivity and promotes government transparency in service of the public, while providing the Legislature and Executive Branch with an independent and objective view of how government can operate more efficiently and effectively.

Examiners use the breadth of their experiences to communicate with high-level personnel, perform detailed analyses of government-operated programs using leading-edge technological tools, develop a range of technical and communication skills, and receive expert-level training and qualifying experience necessary for professional certifications and licenses, including the Certified Public Accountant credential.
