This session will identify steps local officials can take to help detect and prevent fraud and abuse. Participants will learn about the fraud triangle, which consists of common red flags, organizational vulnerabilities to fraud and how to minimize risks.

OSC will be releasing a new system for maintaining municipal contact information and ensuring important OSC communications are received timely, and by the current local government officials. This session will walk through how to create, modify, verify and remove municipal official contact records. Note: This system affects Counties, Cities, Towns, Villages, Fire Entities, Libraries, and other non-school special districts.

This multi-day school is designed to familiarize participants with the basic concepts of governmental accounting and give them a working knowledge of basic bookkeeping procedures such as understanding debits and credits, a discussion of the modified accrual system of accounting, the practice of maintaining the books and records, developing and accounting for the annual budget, as well as the year-end closing process.
