An important part of your NYSLRS benefits is benefits your survivors may receive if you die while working for a public employer. If you die before retiring, your survivors or employer should contact us as soon as possible. We will also need a certified death certificate. We will mail information about death benefits, and any needed forms, to your beneficiaries.
