This retirement plan summary describes the benefits available to Tier 1 and 2 Employees’ Retirement System uniformed personnel in institutions under the jurisdiction of the New York State Department of Correctional Services, and security hospital treatment assistants under the jurisdiction of the New York State Office of Mental Health. These benefits are provided by Article 2, Sections 60, 60-a, 61, 62, 63, 75-f, 75-h, 89, 89-u, and Article 11 of the New York State Retirement and Social Security Law (RSSL) as enacted by the New York State Legislature.

Throughout this publication, you will find references to “Sections” and “Articles” that refer to the RSSL. The New York State and Local Retirement System, headed by the Comptroller of the State of New York, administers this plan. Our main office is in Albany, New York.
