This plan covers members who work as uniformed employees in institutions under the jurisdiction of the New York State Department of Correctional Services, or as security hospital treatment assistants under the jurisdiction of the New York State Office of Mental Health. If you joined, or were required to join the New York State Employees’ Retirement System, you are automatically covered by this plan.

When you became a Retirement System member, you completed a membership application that was filed with the Office of the State Comptroller.
