What does Accumulate mean?
The Accumulate status for a retiree indicates a suspended pension. The reason for the suspension is specific to a retiree who receives a paper check and who stops cashing those checks. After there are several uncashed checks and no contact from the retiree, NYSLRS suspends the pension and accumulates the payments.
What is the difference between Suspend, Accumulate and Recovery?
If a retiree is on a Suspend or Accumulate status, it means no current pension payments are being made to the retiree. If no pension payments are being issued to the retiree, it would also mean that NYSLRS would not be sending your organization money for that retiree’s monthly deduction.
There is no Recovery based on a Suspend or Accumulate status. Recoveries are applied based on the death of a retiree or beneficiary.
