Demotion

An employee is entitled to salary credit in a lower grade position for service in a higher grade position. Reconstruct in the lower grade for the negotiating unit of the position to which moving, using the hiring rate (including increased hiring rate, if any), performance advance payment plan (s), general salary increases, job rate limitation and longevity salary for such lower grade from the appropriate salary schedules in effect during the period covered by the salary reconstruction.

A. All prior service in grade (s) higher than grade to which being demoted:

Reconstruct as explained above to determine employee’s salary as if all service had been in the lower grade.
 

B. Reinstatement to lower grade previously held:

Reconstruct as explained above from the salary employee attained when last in the lower grade.
 

C. Demotion to intermediate grade

On the date that the employee was promoted to the position now leaving, promote to the new position to which being demoted and reconstruct as explained above.

D. Demotion in Security Services Supervisors units where employee is receiving longevity payment(s)

Review the record to determine if the employee is receiving 10, 15, 20 or 25 year longevity payment (s). Remove any longevity amounts from the higher grade salary and reconstruct a base salary as explained above and then add 10, 15, 20 or 25 year longevity rate for lower grade onto the base of lower grade.

E. Demotion due to downward reclassification:

  1. A permanent incumbent retains his or her same salary, but future performance advances are based on the increment/advance amounts, job rate and longevities of the lower grade.

  2. A temporary incumbent receives his or her actual salary entitlement in the lower grade as explained above in steps A-E.
